Northumbrian Water is set to start a £1.3 million sewer upgrade in Middlesbrough next week, aiming to reduce flooding risks in the area.
Middlesbrough: Northumbrian Water is putting £1.3 million into upgrading the sewers on Gresham Road. They’re going to work on 165 meters of the sewer network to boost its capacity.
They’ll kick things off this week, with the main work starting on Monday, January 13, and it should take about five months to wrap up.
The project will be handled by Mott MacDonald Bentley, the water company’s partner. The new sewer will start at Bow Street and stretch along Gresham Road toward Glebe Road.
The team plans to work in stages, which should help minimize the impact on parking for residents. They’re keeping everyone in the loop about what’s happening.
Residents had a chance to meet the team and chat about the project at a drop-in event back in October.
Tochukwu Okafor, the project manager, mentioned that the goal is to cut down the risk of sewer flooding for folks living in the Gresham Road area.
He explained that they’re boosting the sewer network’s capacity to handle more sewage and rainwater, especially during heavy downpours. This should help reduce flooding chances.
Okafor also noted that while the project will involve a lot of work in the community, they’re committed to keeping disruptions to a minimum.
He thanked everyone who attended the October event and said they’re available to talk with anyone in the community throughout the project.
