Local groups can apply for grants between £1,500 and £5,000 to support community activities aimed at improving well-being and reducing isolation
Bridlington: The ‘Do it for East Yorkshire’ (DIFEY) community fund is back, and it’s offering some serious cash! East Riding of Yorkshire Council is dishing out grants from £1,500 to £5,000 for local groups. Applications opened on January 13.
So, who can apply? Well, if you’re part of a voluntary group, community organization, or even a town or parish council, you’re in luck! These grants are all about boosting community activities that help with health, well-being, and tackling social isolation. Charities, youth groups, and even churches can get in on this too.
There are loads of themes you can apply under, like cultural activities, community projects, and making places more accessible. You can even get funding for events, festivals, or just to help with energy costs for community spaces.
Bridlington groups are especially encouraged to jump on this opportunity. For instance, Pocklington Arts Centre got nearly £4,500 to run a weekly singing group, which has really brought people together. Residents like George and Elaine have found joy in singing and meeting new friends, which has been a big boost for their mental health.
Volunteering has also been a hit! Phil and Jenny have found that helping others has made them feel more connected to their community. They love seeing the smiles on people’s faces and how friendships blossom.
Councillor Anne Handley is all for it, saying it’s fantastic to see how these groups are uniting communities. She’s urging anyone interested to check out the DIFEY scheme and get involved.
Just a heads up, this fund is for new activities, not ones that are already running. If you got a grant from March to December 2024, you can’t apply for more this time around.
