A Perthshire family is grateful for community support after a fire damaged their home, raising over £3,200 through a GoFundMe campaign
Perthshire: A family in Grandtully is facing a tough time after a fire damaged their home. They’ve started a fundraising campaign to help get back on their feet.
The fire broke out on a Sunday, forcing residents to evacuate Laidneskia House. Three fire engines rushed to the scene and battled the flames for about two hours.
Sadly, the house suffered significant damage, and the family had to find temporary shelter in a hotel. Tammy Ashton-Clements, who lives there with her parents, shared how it all unfolded.
She recalled a stranger knocking on their window to alert them that the roof was on fire. Her dad tried to help by going up on the roof with buckets, while Tammy focused on getting her mum and their dogs to safety.
Thanks to the quick thinking of that passerby, they called 999, which made a big difference. Neighbors also stepped in to help, taking Tammy’s mum to their home while they waited for the firefighters.
Once the fire crews arrived, they worked hard to control the blaze. Tammy mentioned that if they had caught it earlier, the damage could have been less severe. Thankfully, the original stone walls of the house helped contain the fire.
Unfortunately, Tammy had just moved back in with her parents to help out, and their house insurance had lapsed. This left them in a tough spot after the fire.
To raise funds, Tammy set up a GoFundMe page, and the community has really come together, donating over £3,200 so far. They’ve also received clothes, electronics, and money from generous neighbors.
Tammy expressed her gratitude for the support, saying how thankful she is for the community’s kindness. They’ve lived in Perthshire since 1998, and it’s heartwarming to see everyone rally around them during this difficult time.
She also praised the quick response from the fire crews from Aberfeldy, Pitlochry, and Dunkeld, noting that it could have been much worse without their prompt action.
