Bristol: Exciting news for cyclists! Next month, the city will get 40 new cycle hangars. These hangars will pop up in various neighborhoods like Bedminster, Cotham, and Eastville.

So, what’s a cycle hangar? They’re these cool, lockable pods that can hold up to six bikes. They take up about the same space as a parked car, making them super convenient for bike storage.

The council picked the locations from a list of 48 spots suggested by residents in a recent survey. Councillor Ed Plowden is thrilled about this project, saying it’ll give people a safe place to store their bikes and hopefully encourage more folks to cycle.

These hangars are part of a bigger plan to improve transport in Bristol, making cycling safer and more appealing. The installation will kick off in the first two weeks of February 2025, with some prep work starting in January.

Lockit-Safe, the contractor, will handle the installation and management of the hangars. If you want a space, it’ll cost you £55 a year, plus a £25 refundable key deposit. Households will need to apply for a spot, so keep an eye out for the application process.

Letters have already been sent to nearby residents with all the details. Plus, you can register your interest in a space by emailing or calling Lockit-Safe. This project is funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and is part of a larger initiative to install 80 cycle hangars across the region.

So, if you’re in Bristol and love biking, this is definitely something to look forward to!
