Hurst Green: The village hall’s car park was in pretty rough shape, but now it’s getting a £43,000 facelift. Thanks to a grant from the Government’s Rural England Prosperity Fund, the Aighton, Bailey and Chaigley Memorial Hall is looking much better.

They’ve resurfaced the car park and even added some new playground equipment. This hall is super important for the locals, especially since it’s a key stop on the Tolkien Trail, drawing visitors from all over the UK.

The Rural England Prosperity Fund, managed by Ribble Valley Borough Council, is all about boosting the rural economy. It helps with projects that support small businesses and improve community spaces. The hall has been around since 1965, serving as a war memorial and a gathering spot for residents, especially since there aren’t any shops nearby and the bus service is pretty limited.

Locals call it the ABC, and it’s a hub for the Women’s Institute, a playgroup, a youth club, dance classes, and even the Hurst Green Football Club.

Niall Macfarlane, the chairman of the ABC Memorial Hall, shared how they want to create a space that brings everyone together. He emphasized the importance of social, sports, and leisure activities in building strong community ties and tackling loneliness.

He expressed gratitude for the grant, which has made these much-needed improvements possible. He also thanked Margaret Carrington, the parish council chairman, for her efforts and Ribble Valley Borough Council for their support in getting the application through.
