A £780,000 initiative in Warrington has provided vital support to over 22,000 residents, enhancing community wellbeing and tackling isolation.
Warrington: Over 22,000 folks have tapped into services from Cadent’s ‘Centres for Warmth’ in just the first year. This partnership with the local council is really making waves.
They’re funding all sorts of helpful stuff, like energy efficiency tips and ways to boost income. Plus, they’re tackling loneliness, which is super important.
Councillor Tony Higgins mentioned how life-changing this support is, especially now when so many people need it. It’s all about reaching those who might feel shy about asking for help.
He pointed out that it’s sad people feel that way, but the program is designed to be discreet. Many people might already be at community centers for other reasons, and that’s where they can find trusted advice.
Instead of focusing on just one center, this project spreads across all community centers managed by the council. It’s a big deal, involving lots of partner agencies in Warrington.
This makes it the largest of Cadent’s projects in North West England. During a visit to Fearnhead Community Centre, Paula Steer from Cadent highlighted how this partnership reaches a diverse group of people.
With nearly 100 centers in the North West and over 450 across the UK, they’re doing amazing work to improve health and wellbeing.
Funded through an agreement with Ofgem, they’re proud of this initiative, knowing it helps those who need it most.
As the first year wraps up, it’s been reported that 22,207 individuals accessed various services, including clubs offering hot meals.
Additionally, 2,665 people got help claiming benefits and improving their home’s energy efficiency. They’ve also distributed 1,734 carbon monoxide info packs and 431 alarms to raise awareness about this dangerous gas.
Plus, they’ve handed out 600 slow cookers to help people leaving care live independently, and 82 families have joined healthy cooking classes. It’s all about making a real difference!
