A wind turbine project is planned for Conery Farm near Bishop’s Castle, aiming to generate power for 30 years using renewable energy sources.
The company wants to use Conery Farm, which sits southwest of Bishop’s Castle. Beamond Partners Ltd owns the farm and people historically call the field “Shootin Alley.” Therefore, they call it Shootin Alley Wind Project too.
The turbine’s blade tip will reach 80 meters high, and the rotor’s diameter will measure 61 meters.
Since 2021, Shropshire & Telford Community Energy has worked on this project. They partnered with Lightfoot, a Bishop’s Castle environmental group, and held three public meetings. The town council also got the plans.
In 2023, they sought advice from Shropshire Council, and the developer found this advice valuable.
Daniel Grierson spoke for the developer, noting that the turbine will be pale grey and have a semi-matt finish.
No ads or words will be on it, except official notices. The tower door will have a turbine number, and the planning group must agree to changes.
They will bring the turbine parts, and two large cranes will assemble them.
Trucks will use the B4385 to deliver materials, a route west of the site. Construction could take about six months, with noisy work happening 7 AM to 7 PM weekdays and 7 AM to 5 PM on weekends.
The turbine will run itself, and staff will check it once or twice a month using a car for these quick trips.
Longer visits happen every six months to check blades, bolts, and oil. They only change the oil if it gets bad.
Hydraulic oil controls the brakes, and they expect to replace it every five years. Repairs might be needed sometimes too, and remote systems will monitor everything.
Policies support low-carbon projects, and national and local plans agree that using renewable energy helps the environment.
This project adds renewable power and avoids harm to the area. It won’t hurt nature or historical sites.
