Gateshead: Peter Douglas, a 90-year-old local, was hit by a car while walking on High West Street late at night on December 23. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The incident involved a black BMW 525d that was heading west when it struck Peter near the Regent Street junction. The exact reasons for the crash are still unclear.
Emergency services were quick to respond, but sadly, Peter passed away on January 8. His family is currently receiving support from specially-trained officers.
The driver of the BMW stayed at the scene to help the police with their investigation. Right after the accident, authorities began looking into what happened and are asking for more witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Andrew McNally from Northumbria Police expressed his condolences to Peter’s family during this tough time. He emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and they need anyone who was in the area to reach out.
They’re especially interested in dashcam footage from anyone who might have been driving by at the time of the crash. If you have any information, please contact the police so they can help Peter’s family get the answers they need.
