Gloucestershire: Michael Patterson started snapping photos of railway stations over 40 years ago. It was part of his job, but it turned into a passion.

On his first day working for British Rail, his boss handed him a camera and told him to hit the road. The goal? Capture the beauty of the stations, not the trains.

For a whole year, from 1979 to 1980, he focused on the buildings. This was a unique approach that sparked his love for railway architecture. He ended up with thousands of photos from all over the UK and Europe.

Some of his favorite memories come from trips to the West Country in the 1980s. You can check out some of these nostalgic shots from Cheltenham Spa and Gloucester on his Flickr page.
