A serious crash on the A1(M) near Bowburn left five people hospitalized, causing major traffic delays.
Durham: This morning, drivers faced a nightmare on the A1(M) southbound. A big crash happened around 9 am between Bowburn and Chilton, and traffic was at a standstill for hours.
People on the scene saw loads of police and ambulances rushing to help. It was a chaotic situation, and the road was closed for a while.
One driver, Paul, reached out to us, saying the delay estimates were way off. He was stuck for over an hour and a half, feeling frustrated with the slow response from emergency services.
Another motorist, Lynne, shared her experience too. She mentioned being stuck in traffic since 9:20 am, watching multiple emergency vehicles pass by. She hoped everyone involved would get the help they needed soon.
Sadly, it was confirmed that five people were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital for treatment. The North East Ambulance service responded quickly, sending several ambulances and a duty officer to the scene.
Durham Constabulary is looking into the details of the incident, and we’ll keep you updated as more information comes in.
