A serious multi-vehicle crash on the A1(M) has resulted in five individuals being hospitalized and the southbound carriageway closed.
Durham: A nasty crash happened around 9 am near the Bowburn junction and Coxhoe. It involved multiple vehicles, and it’s caused quite a mess on the road.
The North East Ambulance Service was quick to respond, sending out four ambulances. Five people ended up being taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Right now, the southbound carriageway between junctions 60 and 61 is still closed. So, if you’re heading that way, you might want to find an alternative route.
A spokesperson from the North East Ambulance Service mentioned they got the call about the crash at 9 am. They dispatched four ambulances, along with a duty officer and a commander to manage the situation.
They confirmed that five patients were taken to the hospital for care. It sounds like a pretty serious incident, so let’s hope everyone pulls through.
According to a National Highways spokesperson, the road is closed due to the collision, but they noted that emergency services are on the scene and there are no delays reported for those approaching the area.
