Plans to transform a disused church in Brymbo into affordable housing have been submitted, aiming to create 16 new apartments for locals.
The idea is to knock down the old Engedi Chapel and Brymbo Methodist Church and build 16 one-bedroom apartments. Sounds like a good way to use the space, right? The church has been closed since 2003 and is in pretty rough shape.
This isn’t the first time someone’s tried to redevelop the site, but previous plans didn’t go anywhere. The new proposal is backed by Wales & West Housing Association, and they’re hoping to make a real difference for people on the housing register.
The new apartments will be in two blocks, with one block having 12 units and some parking underneath. The other will have four apartments. They’re also planning to add solar panels to the roof, which is a nice touch for sustainability.
The folks behind the project say that while it’s sad to lose the church buildings, there hasn’t been much demand for them in the community. They believe that the need for affordable housing is way more pressing right now.
Wrexham Council will be looking at the application soon, so we’ll see what happens. It could be a big step forward for local housing needs!
