A prank on Google Maps has led to confusion and chaos in Cyffylliog, Denbighshire, as shoppers search for a non-existent Aldi store
Residents are asking folks to stop coming by for their grocery runs. They’ve noticed a surge of cars, and it’s causing quite the stir. One milk tanker even got stuck trying to navigate the narrow roads after being misled by Google Maps.
With only about 500 people living there, the village isn’t equipped for all this traffic. Some locals find the situation funny, but others are pretty annoyed. Llinos Watkin Jones, who was watching her daughter’s house, mentioned that big trucks getting stuck can lead to real problems.
She even shared that a tanker ripped an electricity cable from her daughter’s home while trying to squeeze through. Local councillor Elfed Williams pointed out that while it’s amusing, it raises serious questions about how Google allows such errors to happen.
After a local farmer helped the stuck lorry driver, Google finally removed the fake Aldi listing. Now, things are getting back to normal in Cyffylliog, and the village can breathe a sigh of relief. Google said they’re on it, working hard to keep their maps accurate and reliable.
