A roundup of criminals sentenced in Yorkshire from July to December 2024
Yorkshire: It’s been quite a year in the courts here. Since July, a lot of criminals have been sentenced for various offenses, from petty theft to serious crimes. The judges and court staff have been working hard to keep things moving despite the chaos outside.
Some of the cases have been pretty shocking. For instance, Mark Metcalfe was sentenced for the manslaughter of Terri Jordan, a tragic case that shook the community. Then there’s Vincent Morgan, who was convicted for drowning his partner, Lisa Welford, in the River Derwent. These stories remind us of the serious issues we face.
In July alone, we saw a range of offenders. Ebrahim Pandor and Amjad Hussain were jailed for abusing a teenage girl, while Luke Merry found himself back in prison for breaching a sexual harm order. Shahid Hussain was extradited and sentenced for indecently assaulting a minor, showing that justice can catch up with those who think they can escape.
Leon Roberts, a drink-driver, was sentenced for causing a fatal crash, and Akeel Liaqat was jailed for a violent attack at a party. The list goes on, with many more cases highlighting the ongoing battle against crime in our region.
As we move through the rest of the year, it’s clear that the courts will continue to be busy. The community is watching closely, hoping for justice and safety for everyone. It’s a tough job for the legal system, but they’re doing their best to keep things in check.
