Sydney: So, here’s the scoop. An American woman, Liliana Goodson, is in a bit of hot water after trying to sneak a gold-plated gun into Australia. She thought it would be a good idea to bring it along when she flew in from Florida to attend clown school. Yeah, you heard that right—clown school!
When she landed in April 2023, customs found the 24-carat gold-plated pistol in her luggage. Liliana ended up pleading guilty to illegally importing a firearm and was sentenced to a year in jail. Out of that, she’ll spend four months in full custody.
In court, she claimed she brought the gun for protection, but her story got a little shaky. When customs asked if she had any prohibited items, she said no. But her phone told a different story. Turns out, she had searched online about bringing a gun in her suitcase and even set a reminder to pack it. Oops!
She told the court she was scared to use the gun and would just “pistol whip” someone if needed. She had plans to keep it under her car seat, and her gun permit was back in Alabama. Not the best plan, right?
To make matters worse, the court learned she had a history of using banned substances. After the hearing, she was taken into custody and had to remove her jewelry before being handcuffed. She also got hit with a $1,000 fine and was ordered to attend drug counseling after her release.
The magistrate made it clear that Australia has strict gun laws, especially after a tragic shooting in 1996. They really don’t mess around when it comes to firearms, and this case is a reminder of that.
