Ancoats: It’s been over a week, and folks are still freezing without heating or hot water. Can you believe it? The flood really messed things up.

Residents in the Chips building are dealing with some seriously cold temps since New Year’s Day. The management company, RMG, said the basement flooding was just too much for the system to handle.

People are using space heaters to stay warm, and one elderly guy, Eric, is even boiling water just to wash up. He’s 77 and said it feels like living in an ice box. That’s rough!

RMG claims they’re on it, working with specialists to fix the issue, and they hope to have it sorted by Saturday. But for some, that’s just too long to wait.

Others have packed up and left, with one person crashing at family’s place 50 miles away. Can you imagine having to shower at work or the gym just to stay clean?

Another renter, who pays a hefty £1,700 a month, is thinking about getting a hotel for the weekend. With temperatures dropping to -7C, it’s no wonder they’re looking for a way out.

One landlord is calling for more help from RMG, saying a heater isn’t enough when people can’t even take a hot shower. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.

Manchester council is keeping an eye on things, so at least there’s that. RMG says they’ve got heaters for residents, but any extra costs will be up to the management company to decide.

They really do feel for the residents, but it sounds like they’re stuck waiting for the right fix. It’s a tough spot to be in, and everyone’s hoping for a quick resolution.
