Ayrshire will hold public meetings to discuss proposed changes to speed limits aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents
Ayr: So, Ayrshire is gearing up for some important meetings about speed limits. They’re part of a big review to make our roads safer. The goal is to cut down on accidents and injuries.
They’re thinking about lowering the speed limit on single carriageway roads from 60mph to 50mph. Plus, they want to raise limits for larger vehicles. It’s a big deal, and they want to hear what folks think.
Meetings will be held in Arran and Ayr. The one in Arran is on January 15 at the Village Hall, and it runs from 3pm to 7pm. Then, on January 16, they’ll have another meeting at Lochside Community Centre in Ayr, same time.
They’ve already had a ton of responses online, over 8,700! To keep the conversation going, they’re planning more in-person events across Scotland in January and February. It’s a great chance for people to ask questions.
Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop emphasized that road safety is super important. She wants Scotland’s roads to be the safest by 2030. She’s thrilled with the response so far and hopes many will join the discussions.
She mentioned that changing speed limits could really help reduce accidents while keeping travel times steady. It’s all about making our roads safer for everyone.
