Wrexham faces missed bin collections due to bad weather and post-holiday waste surge
Wrexham: So, it turns out that bad weather has really thrown a wrench in the works for bin collections in Wrexham. After the holidays, the amount of waste piled up, and it’s been a bit of a mess.
Wrexham.com reached out to the council to see if staffing issues were causing the delays, but they only mentioned the weather as the culprit. Seems like that’s the main issue right now.
Darren Williams, who’s in charge of Environment and Technical Services at the council, said the timing couldn’t be worse. It’s right after Christmas and New Year, which is one of the busiest times for waste collection.
He mentioned that they’re still trying to stick to their collection schedules and are working hard to keep everyone updated in real-time when things go wrong.
They’ve been doing winter maintenance to ensure they can reach most collections despite the weather. The plan is to keep things moving and get back on track as soon as they can.
Williams also encouraged everyone to use their email reminder system for refuse collection and to keep an eye on local blogs and social media for updates.
Interestingly, some commercial bins in the town center hadn’t been collected since December 27, even before the bad weather hit.
