Port Glasgow: The Barony St John centre is back in action! They had to close for a bit due to some renovations next door. Scaffolding and materials were being stolen, so they decided to keep their tools safe inside.

But, oh boy, it got dusty in there! With the doors left open while work was going on, dust from the street and sand from the beach made a real mess. Plus, the toilets weren’t in the best shape either.

So, starting January 3, they rolled up their sleeves and got to cleaning. They’re all set to welcome everyone back this week. The first class back is Tai Chi, kicking off this Saturday.

Mhairi from Tai Chi Scotland will be leading the class from 10am to 11am. If you’re curious, just show up! The first lesson is free, and after that, it’s just £5.

And don’t forget, the Krav Maga class is starting back on Thursday, January 16. It’s a mix of fitness and self-defense, and it sounds like a blast!

They even bring in a padded attacker every eight weeks to help you practice what you’ve learned. The class runs from 6pm to 7pm and costs only £3. It’s open to young folks aged 5-18 and adult women, but sorry guys, no males over 18 allowed.

On February 8, United Spiritual Healers Scotland will be back in the training room from 2pm to 4pm. If you’re interested in spiritualism or just need some healing, swing by and chat with them.

During the week, the charity uses the centre to help vulnerable people, but the main hall and training room are available for rent outside those hours for just £20 an hour. They even give you a half-hour setup time for free!

The hall is mostly matted, perfect for martial arts or dance classes. There’s also a gym area with loads of equipment available for rent at £40 an hour, and you can even have a qualified instructor help you out.

If you want to book the hall or training room, just shoot an email to alan@scotcps.org.uk or give him a call at 07900 950599.

Next time, I’ll fill you in on the new wellbeing café they’re planning. Until then, take care!
