Basingstoke and Deane Council speeds up its Local Plan. Aim to build 4,500 homes in 15 years after changes in national planning policies.
A schedule to advance the plan will be agreed upon. This plan guides all local building projects. The meeting is on February 11th and is held by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
The Cabinet will look at the revised plan. It is called the Local Development Scheme, and this helps move the Local Plan forward quickly. This plan aims for adoption in 2027. Extra work will meet new policies; these are national planning policies.
The government issued a new planning framework just before Christmas. This framework sets England’s planning policies. It asks the council to plan for more houses and supporting infrastructure.
The plan needs to increase housing from 828 homes yearly to 1,127. About 4,500 extra homes must be delivered. This covers the council’s 15-year Local Plan.
The council sees no other option; they must change the Local Plan. This plan determines where homes are built. A new strategy could be included; it’s needed before submitting to inspectors.
The council will seek public input and allow residents, local groups, businesses, and developers to share their views on the changes.
The council will launch a call for sites. They want owners and developers to offer development land to help make the plan faster.
