Brighton: It seems like the bedbugs are back in a tower block just weeks after the council tried to get rid of them. Residents at Kingfisher Court are convinced these pesky bugs are hiding in the walls.

Even after the council sent pest control to spray the flats, tenants are still finding the bugs. This isn’t the first time either; the building has had issues with bedbugs since 2020.

Some tenants, who prefer to stay anonymous, are worried about speaking out because they want to move but fear backlash. One person said they’re desperate to leave since the treatments just don’t seem to work.

They mentioned, “The bugs are in the walls, so spraying isn’t enough. I can think of eight flats that have had them in the last year, and that’s just the ones I know about.”

Another neighbor found out their home had a different bug after pest control checked it out. One family has replaced their furniture multiple times and still can’t shake the problem, which has even made them sick.

With a young baby in the house, another family is worried about the treatments, especially since the building is still dealing with these bugs.

Labour councillor Gill Williams said the council is aware of the situation and has been responding to reports. She reassured residents that they’re providing support and are ready to act quickly if more cases pop up.

She encouraged anyone who thinks they have bedbugs to report it right away so they can help out. It’s a tough situation, and the council is trying to do what they can for the residents.
