Oddie’s Bakery, a cherished family-run business, will close all stores, ending a 120-year legacy in Lancashire.
Nelson: Oddie’s bakery, a staple in the community, is shutting down after 120 years. It all started back in 1905 when William Henry Oddie opened the first shop.
With 13 locations across east Lancashire, including Nelson, this family-run bakery has been a go-to for fresh bread and pies. Even Prince Charles visited for their centenary celebration!
Despite expanding to nearby towns like Burnley and Colne, the Oddie family has run the business for four generations. But now, they’ve decided to close up shop.
They announced on their website that the last day of trading will be January 11th. It’s a tough goodbye, as they’ve been part of so many lives over the years.
Sadly, more than 100 employees will be affected by this closure. Director Lara Oddie shared that they’ve faced many challenges over the years, from world wars to the pandemic.
But with rising costs and fewer customers, the family felt it was time to sell. Unfortunately, a last-minute buyer backed out, leaving them no choice but to close.
It’s heartbreaking for the Oddie family, their loyal staff, and the customers who have loved their unique products. Here’s a list of the stores that will be closing:
