Grantham: The recent flooding has left many residents in a tough spot. People living on Belton Lane are feeling the impact after the River Witham overflowed.

Some families are now facing months away from their homes. Joanna and Terry Hagues, who have lived there for eight years, are currently in a hotel while repairs are made.

Joanna expressed her heartbreak, saying, “Everything we built is gone in an instant.” It’s tough to see their home, which meant so much to them, in such a state.

Their daughter Lidia came from Derby to help her sister Alicia with the cleanup. Lidia shared how quickly the water rose, catching them off guard.

Despite the chaos, the community stepped up. Joanna mentioned two teenage boys who helped clear drains and others who brought hot drinks. It’s heartwarming to see such kindness.

Joanna noted, “The expected support wasn’t there, but the community really came through.” The damage to their home is extensive, and it could take up to six months to fix everything.

Emma Woolley, who lives next door, faced a similar situation. She returned home to find her house filled with water. It was overwhelming, especially with a young child to care for.

Emma had to explain to her daughter that their home was “poorly” and needed fixing. It’s heartbreaking to see her child’s Christmas presents ruined.

They’re currently staying with family while dealing with insurance. Emma appreciates the community support, with many reaching out to help.

Tom and Jessica Newcombe, who have four kids, also experienced the flooding. Tom noticed the river rising while working from home. They were lucky to have some protection, but their shed was damaged.

Tom praised the community spirit, saying people came together to help each other. A GoFundMe has been set up to support those affected, showing the strength of Grantham’s community.

Lincolnshire County Council has been contacted for further comments on the situation. It’s a tough time for many, but the support from neighbors is making a difference.
