A pair of big cats have been safely captured in the Scottish Highlands after being released irresponsibly, sparking a major rescue operation.
Scottish Highlands: A couple of big cats were found roaming around after someone let them loose in a pretty reckless move. Thankfully, they’ve been captured and are now safe at a zoo.
The rescue mission was no small feat. Police Scotland teamed up with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland to track down the cats. They worked through the night, using cameras and baited traps to catch them.
Now, these big cats are chilling in quarantine at Highland Wildlife Park for about a month. After that, they’ll head over to Edinburgh Zoo for a check-up.
Wildlife experts are really upset about this whole situation. They say releasing the lynx like that was a terrible idea, and the cats probably wouldn’t have made it on their own. David Barclay from the RZSS said it was a long night for the team, but they were thrilled to see the cats captured safely.
It’s a relief that they’re healthy, but the whole thing could have ended badly. The RZSS is calling this act “highly irresponsible” and is urging anyone with info about how the cats ended up there to reach out to the police.
For now, they’ve been nicknamed “The KillieHuntly Two.” It’s still uncertain if they’ll return to the wild, but Highland Wildlife Park already has some other lynx, so they might just stick around.
