Satori, a new Japanese fine dining spot in Birmingham, earns a Michelin nod just 44 days after its debut, delighting locals and foodies alike
Birmingham: A new restaurant called Satori has made quite the splash. Just 44 days after opening, it got added to the Michelin Guide. That’s pretty impressive, right? Located in Moseley, it took over the spot where the Michelin-starred Carters of Moseley used to be.
Owner Sharath Sundar wanted to create something fresh and different. Satori is Birmingham’s first Japanese fine dining restaurant, aiming to give diners a unique experience. With head chef Jacky leading the kitchen, they focus on traditional Japanese cooking styles.
The goal was to bring something special to the locals in Moseley, and it seems to be working. Michelin inspectors noticed the buzz around Satori, calling it an ‘on-trend restaurant’ that locals love.
They even highlighted the well-priced tasting menu and a dessert called ‘Mount Fuji’ that’s set on fire at the table. How cool is that?
Sharath shared his excitement with BirminghamLive, saying they were thrilled to find out about the Michelin recognition. They had to keep it under wraps until the guide was published, but it’s been an amazing journey for the team.
He expressed gratitude for the local community and customers who have supported them. With only 25 restaurants in Birmingham recommended by Michelin, being in that elite group is a big deal.
Sharath also reassured diners that they won’t be raising prices just because of the Michelin nod. They want to keep delivering great food and service while continuously improving.
Moseley now boasts two Michelin-recommended spots, including Satori and the Peruvian restaurant Chakana. Satori offers a mix of small plates, sushi, and a £75 tasting menu, with popular dishes like honey and soy duck and wagyu steaks.
Another restaurant, Baloci, also made it to the Michelin Guide. It features an Indo-Persian menu and is part of the same group as Satori. Exciting times for Birmingham’s food scene!
Have you been to Satori or Baloci? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
