A Blyth man has been sentenced for an attack during the World Cup, resulting in significant injury and compensation for the victim
Bedlington: So, there was this incident at the Netherton Social Club during the World Cup last December. Jammie Kerry, a 29-year-old from Blyth, got into a scuffle after England lost to France.
The poor guy he attacked was just minding his own business when Kerry threw a punch. The victim ended up breaking his ankle and needed surgery. Ouch!
He was a self-employed guy who loved golfing, but that injury really messed things up for him. He had to deal with a lot of pain and swelling, and it changed his life quite a bit.
In court, the judge said Kerry’s punch was totally unexpected. The victim fell hard, and it was a serious injury. He went from playing golf regularly to barely managing two holes.
On the bright side, Kerry has kept out of trouble since then and even took some training courses to get back on his feet. The judge gave him an eight-month sentence, but it’s suspended for 18 months. He also has to pay £4,800 in compensation to the victim.
