A Braintree assistance dog named Storm is recovering after being hit by a car, leaving her anxious and fearful of going outside.
Braintree: Last Sunday, Ian Liley was out walking his seven-year-old dog, Storm. Ian, who is partially sighted, relies on Storm, a mix of Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Labrador, to help with his anxiety.
They were at a zebra crossing on Rayne Road, waiting for traffic to stop. Ian thought he waited long enough for cars to see them. But as they started to cross, a car zoomed right past and hit Storm.
Ian heard the bang and Storm’s yelp, and it really shook him up. Storm lay on the ground for what felt like ages before she finally got up and ran off the road. Thankfully, some kind folks from B&M rushed over to help.
The driver, believed to be in a grey Volkswagen Golf, didn’t stop and just drove away. Ian took Storm to the vet right away, but since the accident, she hasn’t been acting like herself.
She’s become really wary, especially when people try to touch her left side, and her left pupil is dilated. The vet said they need to keep an eye on her. Storm used to love going out, but now she just lays around and doesn’t want to go outside at all.
Ian rescued Storm from a rough situation in Harlow, where she was used for breeding and had been attacked by other dogs. Everyone in Braintree knows her as a sweet dog who gets treats from shops, so this change is tough for both of them.
Ian just wants to see her happy again. A police car happened to be nearby and took down Ian’s details about the incident. Essex Police are asking anyone with information to come forward, so hopefully, they can find out more about what happened.
