Suffolk Highways confirms the Bridge Farm Bridge project will finish by the end of February, easing local traffic disruptions.
Suffolk: The Bridge Farm Bridge project is finally nearing the finish line. Highways officials say it should be done by the end of next month. That’s great news for everyone in the area.
Since work kicked off in late July, they’ve been busy tearing down the old bridge and putting in a solid foundation for the new one. They’ve installed concrete piles, steel reinforcements, and concrete supports to make sure this bridge lasts.
The A1088 has been closed since July 22, which has been a real hassle for local businesses in Norton and Stowlangtoft. They were hoping for a quicker turnaround, especially since the road connects the A14 at Elmswell to Thetford.
Recently, they made some big strides by putting in the beams for the new bridge. Even though they faced some unexpected delays last autumn due to material shortages, they’re still making good progress.
They’re aiming to wrap things up by the end of February, but that could change if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Councillor Paul West from Suffolk County Council expressed his delight at the ongoing work, emphasizing the bridge’s importance for local residents.
He also mentioned that this project has been quite complex, involving extra work like building a temporary dam and following environmental guidelines. The council appreciates the community’s patience during this time, acknowledging that while the road closure has been frustrating, the long-term benefits will be worth it.
