The Maidstone Road bridge in Gillingham will close for five weeks for essential repairs, affecting local traffic and access.
National Highways is on the job, and they’ll be replacing parapets and putting in safety barriers. A spokesperson mentioned that to get this done safely, they need to shut the bridge starting January 20 until February 21.
Drivers will have to take a detour. The closure stretches from the junction of Wigmore Road and Deanwood Drive all the way to Kemsley Street Road. They’ve already sent out letters to residents, and Bredhurst Parish Council gave a heads-up on social media.
Don’t worry, though; there’s a signed diversion route. You’ll be rerouted through Wigmore Road, A278 Hoath Way, and a few other roads to get around the closure.
For those who usually access their homes or businesses directly from Maidstone Road, National Highways will allow escorted access. Just be prepared to wait a bit until it’s safe to pass by the workers.
