Sheila Fox, missing since 1972, has been found alive in the south of England, ending a decades-long search by West Midlands Police
Coventry: In a surprising twist, West Midlands Police have cracked one of the UK’s oldest missing person cases. Sheila Fox, who disappeared at just 16 back in 1972, has been found safe and sound after more than 50 years.
Sheila was last seen in Coventry city center, where she lived with her parents. At the time, there were concerns she might have been involved with an older guy. The police reignited the search for her just a few days ago, sharing an old black-and-white photo from the 70s.
Even though there weren’t many leads, the police kept an open mind, thinking she might have moved away without telling anyone. Then, on January 1, they announced that Sheila, now 68, had been located in the south of England, which is just fantastic news.
A police spokesperson shared their excitement, saying they were thrilled to wrap up one of their longest-running missing person cases. They had recently put out a renewed appeal to find Sheila, and it seems that photo really helped jog some memories.
Sheila was confirmed to be safe and well, which is such a relief. Detective Sergeant Jenna Shaw from the Cold Case Investigation Team expressed her delight at finding Sheila after all these years. She mentioned how the team went through every piece of evidence they had to track her down.
Ms. Shaw also gave a shout-out to Detective Constable Shaun Reeve, who played a key role in solving the case with help from the public. She emphasized that every missing person has a story, and their loved ones deserve to know what happened.
Thanks to the appeal, many people reached out to the police, which ultimately led to Sheila being found. What a heartwarming conclusion to such a long search!
