A tragic incident in New Orleans leaves 14 dead, including a British citizen, after a truck attack during New Year celebrations
New Orleans: A British man was among the 14 people killed in a horrific attack. An alleged Islamic State supporter drove a truck into a crowd celebrating New Year’s Day.
The city’s coroner reported that the British victim died from blunt force injuries. The family has requested that their identity be kept private for now.
Dozens more were hurt when 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar’s rented truck plowed into revelers on Bourbon Street. It was a chaotic scene in the early hours of the new year.
An FBI official described the attack as “premeditated” and labeled it an “evil” act of terrorism. They stated Jabbar was “100% inspired by ISIS.”
The UK’s Foreign Office is in touch with local authorities and is supporting the family of the deceased British national.
Most of the victims have been identified, including several from Louisiana and nearby states. The coroner confirmed that blunt force injuries were the cause of death for all victims.
