Buckie: The annual Sair Heidie run brought together nearly 60 runners and walkers, all ready to shake off the New Year cobwebs. It was a chilly day, but that didn’t stop the excitement.

They gathered outside Buckie Episcopal Church, and off they went! The event raised £450 for the Buckie Wildcat Community First Responders, helping them get vital life-saving gear.

Organiser Phill Thompson was thrilled with how it all turned out. He mentioned that while many walkers return each year, the runners included both locals and newcomers.

Laurence Elliott from Aberlour was the first to cross the finish line, clocking in at 26 minutes and 30 seconds. Michelle Slater from Rathven was the first woman to finish, coming in at 31 minutes and 2 seconds.

Prizes for the top runners were generously donated by Kyle Greig, who also organizes the Moray Ultramarathons. The community really came together, with volunteers providing food, drinks, and raffle prizes, ensuring all funds went to charity.

Photos from the race are available on the Sair Heidie 2025 Facebook page, along with the full results. The event relies heavily on volunteers, and more are always welcome for next year.

Next year’s race will be special, marking the 25th anniversary of the Sair Heidie event, which started back in 2000. After a couple of years off due to Covid, they’re excited to welcome everyone back on January 1, 2026.

The Buckie Wildcat Community First Responders play a crucial role, helping those in cardiac distress until paramedics arrive. They cover a vast area, ensuring help is always close by.

It’s heartwarming to see the community come together for such a great cause, and everyone is looking forward to the next run!
