Passengers traveling to Gatwick Airport should expect delays due to bus replacements on the rail line this Sunday
London: If you’re heading to Gatwick Airport this Sunday, you might want to plan for some extra travel time. There’s going to be some engineering work on the rail line, which means bus replacements will be in effect.
Basically, you’ll need to catch a bus between East Croydon and Gatwick. This affects Southern, Thameslink, and Gatwick Express services, so keep that in mind.
Network Rail is doing some important maintenance work at over 50 sites. They’ll be checking tracks, signals, and power systems, plus clearing out some overgrown areas and litter.
If you’re traveling from London, you can take a train from London Victoria to East Grinstead and then hop on a bus to the airport. There’s also a direct train option, but it might take a bit longer.
For local trips, like to Purley, there will be bus services available too. If you’re coming from London to the South Coast, it’s best to go via East Grinstead and use the bus connections from there.
Lucy McAuliffe from Network Rail mentioned that this line is super busy, and they don’t often close it. So, they’re making the most of this opportunity to get a lot of work done.
Jenny Saunders from Govia Thameslink Railway advised everyone to check their travel plans ahead of time. The Brighton Main Line will be closed all day Sunday and late Saturday night, so expect longer journeys and possibly crowded buses.
