Inverness: Mark Wright, the general manager at Cabot Highlands, is buzzing about the upcoming year. He says it’s going to be quite the eventful one.

Most golfers know Cabot Highlands for its signature course, Castle Stuart. It has a rich history that started back in 2000 when Mark Parsinen opened Kingsbarns. He then turned his sights to a stunning piece of land on the Moray Firth, teaming up with American architect Gil Hanse to create Castle Stuart, which opened in 2009.

After 13 successful years, including hosting the Scottish Open four times, The Cabot Collection took over Castle Stuart to develop the Cabot Highlands resort.

So, what can players expect on the course? Castle Stuart is a traditional links course, stretching from 5,179 yards to 7,009 yards, designed by Mark Parsinen and Gil Hanse.

Excitingly, Tom Doak is working on a new 18-hole course called Old Petty, set to open for preview golf in 2025.

Both courses are surrounded by the breathtaking Moray Firth and the historic 17th-century Castle Stuart. The resort features a three-level art deco clubhouse with a restaurant, a pro shop, changing rooms, and even three cozy four-bedroom cottages.

Cabot Highlands doesn’t have members; it’s open to everyone from April 1 to October 31. Guests come from all over the globe, blending local Highland golfers with visitors from North America, Europe, and beyond. It’s a bucket-list course that feels magical every time you play.

Looking ahead to 2025, there weren’t many new developments in 2024, but big changes are on the horizon. Old Petty will add more world-class golf, giving travelers even more reasons to visit the Highlands. Starting in 2026, they’ll renovate the clubhouse and add five new four-bedroom cottages, a golf park, a short Par 3 course, and a new pro shop.

The team is thrilled about these developments and what’s to come as they work towards creating a world-class resort that combines golf, hospitality, and luxury real estate, all while ensuring unforgettable experiences for guests.

The annual Highlands Pro Am is always a highlight, featuring 75 teams from Cabot Highlands, Royal Dornoch, and Nairn Golf Club. It’s a fantastic event showcasing the best of Highland hospitality.

But the real excitement for 2025 is the opening of Old Petty for preview golf. Watching it develop over the last two years has been a blessing, and they can’t wait for guests to experience its beauty.

What makes Cabot Highlands truly special? It’s not just the stunning golf design or the breathtaking nature; it’s the team. Since opening in 2009, staff retention has been high, and the relaxed yet professional culture allows team members to provide genuine, heartwarming service. Many guests, whether first-timers or regulars, rave about how the team makes their experience unforgettable. I couldn’t agree more!
