Caerphilly: It was a busy Saturday for rugby on January 18. After some rough weather, teams were back on the field, and the competition was fierce.

Bargoed had a fantastic game, winning 36-5 against Narberth, keeping them in fourth place in the WRU Premiership. Cross Keys also did well, taking down Brecon 30-20.

Newbridge, however, faced a tough match, losing 28-22 to Neath, who are chasing the title. In the National Championship East, Penallta remains on top after a solid 36-19 win over Mountain Ash.

Bedwas didn’t play this weekend but is still in the title race, sitting third with games in hand. Unfortunately, Ynysddu dropped to ninth after a 26-15 loss to Cambrian Welfare.

In Division 1 East, Nelson climbed to third with a high-scoring 48-26 victory over Pontypool United, while Senghenydd fell to fifth after losing 20-10 to Dowlais.

Blackwood’s unbeaten run ended with a narrow 11-10 loss to Cwmbran, but they still hold the top spot. Abercarn and Risca also faced defeats, with Abercarn losing 36-12 to Caldicot and Risca remaining winless after a 34-19 loss to Croesyceiliog.

Machen was the only Caerphilly team in action in Division 3 East, losing a close one 22-21 to Nantyglo but still sitting third. Fleur de Lys had their match postponed, and Oakdale had no game scheduled.

Crumlin moved up to fifth in Division 4 East with a 38-26 win over Bettws, while Pontllanfraith edged up to seventh after a nail-biting 31-30 win against Whiteheads.

In Division 5 East, Hollybush celebrated a 38-20 win over Abersychan Alexanders, and Hafodyrynys managed a 27-27 draw with Beaufort.

New Tredegar, leading in Division 6 East A, won 14-10 against Trinant. Cwmcarn United finally got their first league win, beating Girling 27-14.

Penallta Athletic climbed to fifth in Division 6 East Central with a 22-19 win over Tondu Athletic.

In cup action, Rhymney secured a spot in the next round of the Division 3 Cup with a 41-17 win over Llangadog, while Deri was knocked out of the Division 5 Cup after a 22-0 loss to Bonymaen.

Caerphilly, unbeaten in Division 2 East Central, had their cup match against Llantwit Fardre postponed. It was a weekend full of ups and downs for the teams!
