Calderdale Council has been ordered to compensate a homeless individual for distress caused by delays in support services
Calderdale: A recent case has highlighted some serious issues with how the council handled a homeless person’s situation. This individual, known as Mx D, faced a lot of distress because they didn’t get the support they needed.
After a family breakdown, Mx D found themselves on the council’s housing register. Unfortunately, due to delays and mistakes, they ended up in unsuitable housing without the care they required. This led to a lot of uncertainty and health problems for them.
The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman stepped in and found that while the council did okay at first, they dropped the ball later on. The housing and social care teams were particularly at fault, causing Mx D unnecessary stress over several months.
In light of this, the Ombudsman ordered Calderdale Council to pay £1,200 in compensation and to apologize for the delays. They also noted that the council has since made some changes to improve their services and staff training.
The report mentioned that the council’s actions to improve were appropriate, which is a step in the right direction. It’s good to see that they’re taking this seriously and working on making things better for the future.
