Calderdale: The Chief Executive, Robin Tuddenham, tops the salary list at £163,196. That’s just the base pay, not counting expenses.

On the flip side, the lowest full-time salary for staff is £23,656, which bumps up to £24,310 starting April 1. Not too shabby, right?

The council is also giving a little extra to its employees, thanks to a living wage supplement that goes beyond the national minimums.

As for other senior roles, the pay varies. For instance, the Director of Children and Young People’s Services earns £144,125, while the Director of Adult Services and Wellbeing makes £132,384.

There are several other senior positions with salaries around the £100,000 mark, ensuring that the council has competitive pay to attract talent.

The average median salary across Calderdale is £29,093, which means the Chief Executive’s pay is about 5.60 times higher than that.

Interestingly, the average salary for men is £29,441, while women earn a bit more at £30,830. It’s good to see some balance there.

In February, the Governance and Business Committee recommended that the full council approve the pay statement, which is a requirement under the Localism Act 2011.

This statement outlines how the council plans to set salaries for senior officers, aiming to attract the right skills and experience.

Before hiring anyone for a role that pays over £100,000, the full council must review the salary package, except for school positions.

Calderdale has faced challenges in hiring and keeping staff, so there might be times when they can adjust the pay policy without full council approval.

However, they believe that, in most cases, this policy will help them fill any vacant positions effectively.
