Charles Bronson, Britain’s infamous prisoner, seeks freedom after decades behind bars, with a Parole Board review on the horizon
Luton: So, Charles Bronson is at it again, trying to get out of prison after being locked up for what feels like forever. This guy has been in and out of trouble since the ’70s, and now he’s making another bid for freedom.
At 72, he’s hoping the Parole Board will finally give him a break. A friend mentioned that he’s really worried about dying in prison. Apparently, he hasn’t been violent in years, and they think this might be his best shot at getting out.
Bronson, who now goes by Charles Salvador, first got sent away for armed robbery when he was just 22. He did get out for a bit but ended up back in for more trouble. Most of his life has been spent behind bars, and he’s earned quite the reputation as a tough guy.
He’s been called the most violent prisoner in Britain, which is saying something. In one of his trials, he even talked about holding hostages during various standoffs. The last time he went up for parole, they didn’t think he was ready to move to an open prison.
They did notice he’s been working on his self-control, but they still weren’t convinced he could handle himself outside. Born in Luton, he’s currently in HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes, and the next hearing could take a whole day with lots of people giving their opinions.
The Parole Board is all about figuring out if he’s a risk to the public. They’ll be asking a lot of questions, and it sounds like they’re pretty cautious about letting him out. A former detective even said there’s a lot of fear around the idea of Bronson being released, given his history.
