Sandford Park in Cheltenham is set to install a flag pole to showcase its Green Flag award, highlighting its quality as a top park.
Cheltenham: A flag pole is going up in Sandford Park to celebrate its recent Green Flag award. This award is a big deal, showing that the park is among the best in the country.
The flag pole will be eight meters tall and will proudly display the Green Flag. During a recent meeting, council officers mentioned that the pole’s location was discussed because the council itself is the applicant.
One councillor, Adrian Bamford, raised a good point about air ambulances. He wanted to make sure that the flag pole wouldn’t interfere with any emergency landings. It turns out they used to land helicopters there, so it was a valid concern.
While the officers hadn’t checked on that, another councillor, Paul Baker, who knows the park well, said that helicopters land further away. In the end, everyone agreed, and the plan was approved without any fuss.
