Exciting news for Middlewich as bypass construction may kick off this summer, easing traffic and boosting local jobs
Cheshire: So, the council has been busy working on the Middlewich Bypass project. They submitted their final business case to the Government last September, hoping to get the green light for funding.
They’re really optimistic about hearing back by the end of February. If all goes well, they could start construction this summer and aim to have the bypass open by autumn 2027.
This Thursday, the highways and transport committee will meet to discuss some important recommendations. If the Government gives the thumbs up, they want to hit the ground running.
Cllr Laura Crane, who’s the vice chair of the committee, mentioned how crucial this project is. It’s not just about easing traffic; it’s also about supporting new homes and creating local jobs.
They’ve got everything lined up—designs are done, permissions are in place, and contractors are ready to roll. They’ve already put in a lot of money to prepare, so any delays could really hurt financially.
That’s why they’re looking to take steps now, just in case they get a positive funding decision. They want to make sure costs don’t keep climbing.
The full report will be available on the council’s website for anyone interested. The bypass will be a new two-way road, connecting different parts of the town and including some nice features like bridges and pathways for cyclists and pedestrians.
