Chester: So, guess what? The tourism folks from Chester and Wrexham are teaming up! They want to bring in more visitors and get them to spend a bit more while they’re here.

Recently, hoteliers and transport providers gathered to brainstorm ways to make the most of Wrexham’s newfound fame, thanks to its Hollywood football story, and mix it with Chester’s amazing attractions.

This meetup was organized by Marketing Cheshire and Destination Wrexham, with help from Visit England and Visit Wales. They met at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel, just a quick train ride apart.

It’s exciting because new data shows Cheshire is a top-notch spot for visitors, with its rich history, stunning architecture, and delicious food scene drawing in over 56 million visitors each year.

Wrexham, which just became a city in 2022, is also in the limelight due to the Disney+ series about Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney owning the local football club.

During the workshop, they discussed ways to create travel packages that connect both cities, making it easier for visitors, including those from the US, to explore.

Some cool ideas included heritage and sports-themed packages that would let people enjoy football at Wrexham’s historic Racecourse Ground and horseracing at Chester Races.

Colin Potts, who leads Destination Chester, mentioned that Wrexham’s rising profile is a great chance for joint marketing, especially since Chester has fantastic places to stay.

He also pointed out the rich history and heritage on both sides of the border, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which makes their combined offerings really special.

Joe Bickerton from Wrexham Council added that working together with Cheshire’s tourism partners opens up more chances to grow the visitor economy.

With a quick train ride and just a 15-minute drive between the two, many visitors are already checking out both cities in one trip.

So, the more they can develop joint campaigns and initiatives, the better they’ll be as a regional destination in the UK!
