Cleveland Police warn against dangers of frozen lakes after kids seen playing
Cleveland: Today, kids were seen having a blast on a frozen lake in Hemlington, Middlesbrough. But it’s not all fun and games, as Cleveland Police are stepping in.
They’re urging everyone, especially kids, to steer clear of the lakes. Falling through the ice can be deadly, and they want to keep everyone safe.
The police made it clear: “We’re warning kids about the risks of frozen lakes. It might look like a good time, but the ice can break easily.”
They added that if someone falls in, the water is super cold, which can lead to serious issues like hypothermia. It’s just not worth the risk.
This warning comes after the UK just had its coldest January night in 15 years. More freezing weather is on the way, so it’s best to stay safe.
In fact, in Altnaharra, temperatures dropped to a chilling minus 14.5C, making it the coldest night of the winter so far. That’s pretty intense!
Even in the North East, it’s still freezing, with temperatures expected to feel like -5C early Sunday morning. So, let’s keep warm and stay away from those icy lakes!
