A man was detained by locals while allegedly trying to ignite a fire near the Kenneth blaze in Woodland Hills, California
Woodland Hills: An arson suspect was caught by locals trying to start a fire near the Kenneth blaze. It’s pretty wild how people banded together to stop him.
The Kenneth fire has been a real problem, spreading quickly and threatening homes. It’s already burned nearly 1,000 acres and is only partially contained.
While they’re still figuring out what caused the other fires in the area, the police think the Kenneth fire was set on purpose. It’s a scary situation.
On Thursday afternoon, someone spotted the suspect trying to light a fire behind a van and called the cops. Witnesses say he looked to be in his mid-20s and spoke Spanish.
Thanks to some quick-thinking locals, the guy was detained before the police even arrived. They tied him up with rope and zip ties, which is pretty impressive teamwork.
One of the neighbors, Renata Grinshpun, described the chaos. She said everyone was shouting for help and calling 911. Even her mom ran out in her bathrobe to help out!
Witnesses said the suspect had a propane tank or something like a flamethrower. He claimed he was just trying to use it to smoke marijuana because he didn’t have a lighter. Sounds a bit sketchy, right?
As the investigation continues, it’s still unclear what his real intentions were. Meanwhile, the fires in the area are still causing a lot of trouble.
It’s been a tough few days for Los Angeles, with multiple fires raging and threatening homes. The Palisades Fire is one of the worst, burning thousands of acres.
