Residents are calling for Moray Council to tackle ongoing flooding at Clovenside Cemetery after it was submerged once more
Forres: It’s a real shame to hear about the flooding at Clovenside Cemetery again. People are understandably upset, especially after seeing the place underwater on New Year’s Day.
One visitor, who didn’t want to be named, was shocked by the state of the cemetery. She mentioned how it made her think twice about whether it’s a good spot for a new burial.
She expressed her feelings, saying she wouldn’t want her loved ones’ graves to be ruined like that. It’s tough enough dealing with loss without having to worry about the final resting place being disturbed.
It seems the flooding mainly affects older graves, but that shouldn’t matter. Everyone deserves respect, no matter how long they’ve been gone.
People thought the council was going to fix this issue back in 2021 when they announced a £56,000 drainage project. But it looks like that didn’t go as planned.
They started the work in September 2021, promising it would be done in about four weeks. But here we are, and it’s still a problem.
Now, it’s unclear if there are any new plans to tackle the flooding again. Moray Council has been asked for a comment, but we’re still waiting to hear back.
