A common 50p coin might be hiding in your change, worth up to £80 if minted in specific years
London: Have you checked your change lately? You might have a hidden treasure! Some 50p coins could be worth a pretty penny, especially if they were minted in certain years.
These coins usually have a common shield design, which has been around for about 15 years. It’s part of a set that includes other coins like 1p and 2p pieces. When you line them up right, they form a shield.
But here’s the kicker: not all 50p coins are created equal. The year they were minted makes a big difference in their value.
According to a TikTok expert known as Coin Collector UK, some of these coins can fetch up to £80! It’s all about finding the rare ones, which collectors are always on the lookout for.
He pointed out that while shield coins are common, those minted in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2016 are the real gems. The 2016 coin is the most sought after, going for around £60 to £80.
So, if you happen to find a 2009, 2010, or 2011 coin, you could get between £30 and £40 for each. And don’t forget about the 2018 coin, which can also be worth around £30 to £45.
Keep your eyes peeled for these coins in your change. You never know what you might find!
