A man from Corris suffered a chipped tooth after biting into a metal clip in a Lidl apple strudel he purchased.
Corris: So, there’s this guy, Wayne Colquhoun, who had a pretty rough experience with a Lidl apple strudel. He bought it from the Aberystwyth store, expecting a tasty treat, but instead, he bit down on a metal clip. Ouch!
This happened on December 22, just a few days after he bought the strudel. He described the clip as being about the size of a one-pence coin. Not exactly what you want to find in your dessert, right?
Wayne was understandably upset. He immediately contacted Lidl to let them know about the issue. Thankfully, he was relieved it was him and not a child who could have choked on it.
But here’s the kicker: Lidl didn’t take immediate action to pull the product from the shelves. Wayne was pretty disappointed with their response, feeling like they were treating it like just damaged packaging instead of a serious safety risk.
He even reached out to the Food Standards Agency because he felt it was a big deal. Wayne said, “A baby could have choked.” He was really worried about other people possibly facing the same issue.
When Lidl’s customer care team asked him to send the clip back for investigation, he refused. He wanted to keep it as proof, fearing it might get lost in the mail.
Now, Wayne’s dealing with a chipped tooth and some other dental issues. He’s been waiting for an NHS dentist appointment but might have to go back to his old dentist in Liverpool for what he thinks will be an expensive fix.
Lidl did respond, saying they hadn’t heard of any similar incidents and didn’t think a recall was necessary. They expressed disappointment that Wayne wasn’t satisfied and mentioned they were looking into the matter.
Ceredigion County Council said they take these reports seriously and will investigate, while the Food Standards Agency advised that local authorities handle food safety issues. So, it looks like this situation is still unfolding.
