Armagh City Council has secured funding to ensure the preservation of Armagh Gaol for future generations
Armagh: The ABC Council just got a £10,000 grant from the Historic Environment Fund. This money is all about making sure Armagh Gaol stays standing and is a valuable part of the community.
They’ll also use some of that cash to take a fresh look at the archaeological impact of the site. It’s important to know what’s there and how to protect it.
This was all discussed at a recent meeting of the Economic Development & Regeneration Committee. They’re really keen on making sure Armagh Gaol doesn’t fall apart and can be used in new ways.
The council sees this as a big deal for the city’s future. They want to breathe new life into the gaol and help the whole area thrive.
They’re also planning to check out the site for any archaeological treasures that might be hiding there. It’s all about preserving history while looking ahead.
On top of the grant, they’re putting in an extra £5,000 from their Tourism, Arts & Culture budgets. It’s a solid plan to keep this historic site alive.
The proposal to accept the funding came from Cllr Thomas O’Hanlon and was backed by Alderman Stephen Moutray. It’s great to see local leaders working together for the community!
