Gwynedd: This Christmas, kids in emergency housing got a special surprise thanks to the hard work of Cyngor Gwynedd staff. They really stepped up to make sure every child had a gift to unwrap.

The Housing and Property Department raised £500 from staff contributions in December. It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together for such a good cause.

Nearly 70 children received gifts, thanks to the council’s Homelessness Team. They made sure families facing tough times had something to brighten their Christmas morning. Adra, a housing association, also pitched in with donations.

It’s a tough situation in Gwynedd, with about three people becoming homeless every day. Many end up spending around 200 days in emergency accommodations like bed and breakfasts because there just aren’t enough homes available.

With the help of the staff, around 70 kids got a present this year. The council is serious about tackling homelessness and has a £140 million Housing Action Plan to create more supported housing and help young people.

Councillor Paul Rowlinson, who oversees Housing and Property, shared how losing a home is hard for anyone, especially kids. Christmas can be especially tough for families in emergency housing.

He expressed gratitude for the staff’s efforts, saying it’s wonderful to see them come together to bring some joy to families facing challenges during the holidays.
