Birmingham: A couple is about to face sentencing for the heartbreaking case of their three-year-old son, Abiyah. They were found guilty of neglecting him to the point of death.

The trial revealed that Abiyah was on a strict vegan diet and suffered from severe malnutrition. He died in early 2020 from a respiratory illness, which was worsened by his lack of proper nutrition.

After being evicted in March 2022, the couple buried Abiyah’s body in their garden. They were arrested later that year while living in a caravan. It’s just a tragic situation all around.

During the trial, it came out that they kept Abiyah’s body in their bed for eight days before burying him. They even tried to treat his illness with garlic and ginger instead of seeking medical help.

Both parents claimed they believed their son would recover, but the evidence showed a different story. The neglect was described as “breathtaking,” and it’s hard to wrap your head around how this could happen.

Now, they’re waiting for their sentencing, and it’s a grim reminder of the importance of caring for our children. It’s just so sad that it had to come to this.
