A visitor to the Edinburgh Christmas market claims he was forcibly removed by security staff
Edinburgh: So, there was this guy, Derek Kerr, who had a pretty rough time at the Christmas market. He said he felt “utterly disgusted” by how he was treated by the staff, claiming they were way too heavy-handed.
The folks running the market, Unique Assembly, were not too happy about his feedback. They said they understood his frustration but also asked for some respect towards their staff.
Derek was there on December 23 with his friend and some family members visiting from Australia. They were just enjoying the festive vibe when things took a turn.
After wandering around the market, they decided to check out more attractions. But when Derek tried to head back in after realizing they missed a section, security wasn’t having it.
He said he approached an entrance that was clearly marked, but a security guard pushed him back, saying it was an exit only. Derek felt like he was being denied his right to roam.
To avoid any fuss, he walked back to the exit, hoping the next staff member would be more understanding. But nope, he got pushed back again when he tried to explain the situation.
Things escalated when he asked to speak to a supervisor, which was refused. Instead, he was told he had to go back to the original entrance.
Then, it got really wild. Derek claimed multiple staff members “forcibly pushed” him and even lifted him off the ground, dumping him outside on Princes Street. Talk about a Christmas nightmare!
He was left feeling embarrassed, especially in front of visitors from abroad. The market organizers said they’re looking into what happened and explained that they have a one-way system during busy times for safety.
They acknowledged that it can be frustrating but emphasized the need for respect towards their staff. They’re in touch with Derek to sort things out.
